How Renting With a Voucher Works

Once you have an active Housing Choice Voucher, you can rent from any participating private landlord. Here's what happens after you find a unit you like.

1
Find a unit
Search AffordableHousing.com for units that accept vouchers within Lafayette Parish, then contact the landlord directly.
2
Submit a Request for Tenancy Approval
You and the landlord complete the Request for Tenancy Approval (RTA) and submit it to LHA for review.
3
LHA inspects the unit
LHA confirms the rent is reasonable and inspects the unit to ensure it meets HUD housing quality standards.
4
Sign your lease
Once approved, you sign the lease with your landlord and LHA begins paying its share of the rent directly.
