Lafayette Housing Authority Welcomes New Executive Director and CEO, Latweeta Smyers, MSW

The Lafayette Housing Authority (LHA) is proud to announce the appointment of Latweeta  Smyers, MSW, as its new Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer. With more than 17 years of distinguished leadership experience at some of the nation’s largest and most innovative public housing agencies, Ms. Smyers brings a dynamic blend of expertise, strategic vision, and a deep commitment to public service.

Ms. Smyers has held key executive roles at the Atlanta Housing Authority, District of Columbia Housing Authority, Elm City Communities (New Haven), and the Cuyahoga Metropolitan Housing Authority, among others. Her extensive background includes oversight of Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) programs ranging from 10,000 to over 22,000 vouchers, management of public housing portfolios, and leadership of capital fund modernization initiatives. She is widely recognized for her dedication to regulatory excellence, resident-focused service delivery, and innovation in affordable housing.

Ms. Smyers holds a Master of Social Work from Florida A&M University and a Bachelor of Science in Social Work from Florida State University. She is also certified in Section 8 Management and HCV Proficiency for Occupancy through NAHRO and QUADEL, respectively.

As LHA continues to expand its services and impact, Ms. Smyers’ leadership marks an exciting new chapter in the Authority’s mission to provide safe, quality, and affordable housing for the Lafayette community.
