Guidance for LHA voucher holders moving to another jurisdiction, and for other Public Housing Authorities coordinating a port involving LHA.
Porting Out vs. Porting In
An LHA voucher holder moves their Housing Choice Voucher out of LHA's jurisdiction to be administered by another PHA in the area they're moving to. LHA remains the initial PHA until the receiving PHA absorbs or bills for the voucher.
A voucher holder from another PHA moves into LHA's jurisdiction, and LHA becomes the receiving PHA. LHA coordinates with the initial PHA to confirm voucher status and either absorb the family or bill the initial PHA.
How to Start a Port
Email ports@thelha.com to begin portability coordination. Include the following in your message:
- Voucher holder's full name
- Current PHA name and PHA code, if known
- Jurisdiction the family is moving to (porting out) or moving from (porting in)
- Contact information for the coordinating housing specialist at the other PHA, if available
Note: ports@thelha.com is for portability coordination between PHAs only. It does not replace standard move paperwork or lease-up requirements — voucher holders must still complete their regular move-out and re-certification steps with their assigned housing specialist.
