Lafayette Housing Authority Honors Its Legacy

The Lafayette Housing Authority (LHA) marked a major milestone this month, celebrating 85 years of service to the community with a vibrant event held at its headquarters on Kattie Drive. The celebration brought together residents, staff, and local leaders to reflect on the agency’s legacy and its ongoing mission to provide safe, affordable housing across Lafayette Parish.

The event featured remarks from Mayor-President Monique Boulet, City Councilmen Kenneth Boudreaux and Elroy Broussard, and Parish Councilman A.B. Rubin, who praised LHA’s enduring commitment to housing stability and opportunity.

Executive Director and CEO Latweeta Smyers stated: “This celebration is not only about our past, it’s about the partnerships and people who continue to shape our future.”

Founded in 1940, LHA has grown from its early beginnings into a cornerstone of housing support in Lafayette Parish, operating both Public Housing and Housing Choice Voucher (Section 8) programs that serve hundreds of families each year.
